Lincoln County Traffic Officer Leigh Metcalfe and popular Grimsby boy was fatally injured in a collision at Mountain View about 6 miles from here at 6:20 Monday night. The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the police. W.H. Dick, Dairyman, of Niagara Falls, N.Y., said to be driver of car that caused accident spent Monday night in county jail. Funeral held today.

A gloom was cast over the entire community early Monday night when reports reached town that Leigh Metcalfe, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Metcalfe, Ridge Road, and traffic officer for Lincoln County, was found fatally injured on the road near Mountain View one mile west of Beamsville on the Niagara Highway.... William H. Dick, aged 38, who operates a dairy on Niagara Avenue, Niagara Falls, N.Y., is out on $5000 cash bail and $15,000 bonds on a charge that through reckless and furious driving he caused actual bodily harm to the deceased... He was very popular and a young man of sterling qualities, and was highly thought of by all those who became acquainted with him. He was a very efficient officer. He was also for a number of years and at the time of his death saxophone player of the Grimsby Moonlight Serenaders Orchestra. In his work he made for himself a host of friends. Prior to accepting the appointment as traffic officer he was chief mechanic of the Central Garage and was an authority on electric devices of all makes of cars. He was also very keenly interested in aeroplanes. His death came as a severe shock to his host of friends here, and the sympathy of the entire community goes out to his parents and brothers and sisters in this, their hour of sadness.
