*0 z 1- -I MINISTRY 0F TRANSPORTATION ONTARIO <MTO) PRELIMINARY DESIGN AND GLASS ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT (EA> STUDY HIGHWAY 401 IMPROVEMENTS (G.W.R. 8-00-00) From 1.0 km west of Hespeler Road Easterly to the west Halton Region boundary, 25.8 km NOTICE 0F STUDY COMMENCEMENT THE STUDY The Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MVTO) has retained McCormick Rankin Corporation (MRC) to conduct a Preliminary Design and Class Environmenta Assessment (Class EA) Study to identify capacity, geometric and operational improvements along the Highway 401 corridor from 1.0 km west of Hespeler Road easterly to the west Halton Region boundary, within the Region of Waterloo and the County of Wellington, as shown in the Key Plan. The study wiii identify operationai and capacity needs, evaluate alternatives and recommend a plan to address the short, medium and long-term needs of the Highway 401 corridor, including the addition of new lanes, rehabilitation/replacement of structures and interchange improvements. A section of the approved Environmental Assesament for Highway 6, Freelton ta Guelph, faIts wîthin the limits of this study. THE PROCESS The study wiii follow the Ciasa Environmental Assessment (EA) for Provincial Transportation Facîlîties (2000) process for a Group 'B' project. Exiernal agency and public consultation will take place throughout the study, încluding two rounds of Public Information Centres (PICs). lTe PICs will provîde the public and interest groupa an opportunîty f0 discuss the study mîth members of the projeci team. Notices providing the time and location of the PiCs wiii be posted on the pro(ecf websîte (www.highway40l-heapeler-halton.ca), published in local newspapers and sent f0 persons on the proiect mailing lîst. Upon compietion of the study, a Transportation Environmental Study Report (TESR) will be prepared and made avaîlable for public review. Notices wiii be posted and published at that time to explain the revîew process and îdentîfy the locations where the TESR la available for the 30-day public review period.
