Ca OPINION a; i DEAR EDITOR: As a member of thse St. Paul's United Churcis coun- cil, 1 would like to clarify a couple of issues mentioned in your April 22 article about our struggling with debt and problems witb the roof. For thse past two yearsc our churcis bas been looking at wbat alternatives are avail- able to us to meet thse future needs of the congregation. We bad many task forces look into specifie aspects, but the main reason we looked for alternatives was that we're' saddled with a buge debt that we canct afford. For instancec as a tempo- rary fix for thse roof, we bad pillars instaiied just s0 that we couid use tise sanctuary. Another tbing, we pay huge energy buIsl since the stained- glass windows bave isoles in thent and let the beat and cold out. Basically, thse main cisurcb is falfing down. Recently we put up fences since some of the corner stones came down aiong witis more brickwork. Our sanctuary is a part of isistoric Milton, but it is a drain on our finances and thse various committees agreed we cant no longer afford te, keep repairing year after year. DEAR EDITOR: In September, my busband and i will waik in tise Weekend to End Breast Cancer. Its a 60-km waik and is truly an amazing experi- ence. [acis of us bas toi raise a minimum of $2,000 to enter tise walk. On March 14 we beld a fundraising euchre tournament. Pizza Hut and Wild Wing of Milton and Georgetowns Boston Pizza ail belped us get a littie dloser te our goal. Sometising isad to be donc. One tising tisat was miss- ing froin criticisms metn- tioned was tisat St. Paul's as a congregation can't afford to fix up tise existing structure. We also have to realize that a cisurcis is a place to worsbip God, not worsisip ourseives or ingratiate our own isuman needs - but only tise need of God. Thse majority of tise con- gregation believes that if tise proposai we voted on goes tbrough tbe various approvais, we will bave a newiy revitalized churcs. BOB OSSER MILTON To Reannon from Boston Pizza, Jeff and Nick from Pizza Hut and Dave and Jessica from Wild Wing, thanks for your help. Breast cancer treatment and research are very dear toi my iseart, as my mother is a recent survivor. With belp like this [rom local businessesc l'm confident we'li meet our goal.
