The Region bas awarded a contract for the work - wbîch includes upgrades to the looring and mechanical systems - Lu Steelcase Construction Inc. The project is expected to, take about one year to, complete. "The renovations will improve comfort for ail residents, staff and visitors to Allendale," said I-lton Commissioner of Social and Community Services Adelina Urbanski. "We are taking steps to ensure that disruptions and noise as a result of the construction is minimal. In particular, we have been working closely with residents and their families to belp ease the transition during tbe renovations." During the renovation period, residential living areas will be closed on a rotating hasis so ibat work is occurring in vacant areas. Residents will be temporarily transferred to another area in Allendale wbîle construction activities are underway. In order to do ibis, Allendale bad to temporanly reduce admissions to reach a vacancv level of 25 beds. Tbe facility will return to, a 200-bed capacîty once construction is com- plete in 2009. The long-ternn care borne needs to, replace tbe floors as tbey're deteriorating [rom tbe wear and tear caused hy wheel- chairs and motorized scooters continually being used on them. Tbe Region is also making several upgrades to the heat- ing, ventilation and air conditîoning system. Tbe mrajonity of repairs and renovations being conducted are required to, ensure that Allendale complies with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care standards for long- term care bornes. In addition te the required repairs, the Region is makîng improvemnenîs to the painting in Allendale as part of its com- mîtment to ensuring a warmn and welcoming home for resi- dents and their famîlies. Accordiîsg to a poîî recently conducted hy Environics Researcli Group, 85 per cent of Halton residents asked are either very or somewhat satisfird with their regional govern- ment.
