By Joanna Phillips SPECIAL TO THE CHAMPION More than anytbîng else, five-year old Sydney Cross loves people. And witb hec enigenatic personalityý its easy for people to love her too. She has heen winning over hearts in auditions, and recently landed a role in a made-for-TV movie, The Two Mrs. Kissels, to air on the Lifetime network. Emmy award-winning actor John Stamos will play one of the lead rharacters, Andrew Kissel. 'Sydney, who lives in Milton witb ber parents, just wrapped up Junior Kindergarten at the Montessori Scbool of Milton. So tender, and already she bas worked witb the bigwigs in Mr. Magoriums Wonder Emporium. The film stanred Dustin Hoffman and Natalie Portînan and sbooting began in Spring 2006, wben Sydney was three years old But the acting bug caugbt on even ear- lier. Family and friends kept telling ber moîn, jodi Cross, tbat she sbould be in commercials. Sydney wasn't just cute - sbe was pre- cocîous. It was enougb to convmnce Cross that ber daugbter was gifted. Carolyns Model and Talent in Toronto was quick to pick ber up. Sydney's been wi th the agency since she was a year old. Cross says, "Witbout tbem (the agency), we wouldn't have any of tbe excitement we have going on rigbt now" Her agent, Kristin Finley, recoLnmend- ed ber for thse role in The Two Mrs.UKissels, and Sydney wasn't about t0 dîsappoint. After ail, its clear that Sydney is well poised to charm elirectors and prodolcers. At just over tbree feet and 33 pounds, she's small for ber age. But what she lacks in size, she more than makes up for in charîsma. Not that ber size bas presented any issues; in fact, it bas allowed ber to play a character younger than herself. Cross describes Sydney as "very; vcry outgoing, verv friendfy; (andl) very dramat- Sydney bas loved going t0 auditions frorn the verv beginning. Says Cross, "She mostly bas fun playing whitb the other kids." She auditions for roles in pnint and commercials, in addition t0 movies. Vs'at does she like most about acting? "Weil, saying tbings," she answers defi- ly Sydney bas bad an avid înterest in dinosaurs for more than a year and can remember everytbîng about tbem. That said, it doesn7t look like she'l bave any problemns remembering ber lines. And lines she will bave as shes set t0 appear in a couple of scenes. Sydney bas been cast as tbree-year-old Mary Kissel, one of Robert Kissel's kids. The Two Mrs. Kissels is based on the true story of two brothers, Robert one of tbem, murdered tbree years apart. Robert, an Amenican investment banker in Hong Kong, was murdered in 2003. I-is wife, Nancy Kissel, plied bim witb a milkshake containing sedauives, and bîudgeoned him to death witb a stat- ue after be lost consciousness. Shes now serving a hie sentence in a Tbailand prison, the word 'Lifer' scrawled outside ber seven-by-seven-foot celI. * In 2006, Robert Kissel's brother, Andrew, was stablird to deatb in Greenwich, Connecticut. His murder remains unsolved, but bis estranged wife, Hayley Wolff Kissel, bas corne under pub- lic scrutiny Filming of The Two Mrs. Kissels started earlier in June.
