The Canadian Champion, Tuesday, April 1, 2008 - A3 Branch Iibrary ground breaks location. A ceremony was held last Tuesday at the site for the Beaty branch on Fourth Line at the east end of Hearst Boulevard, with Mayor Gord Krantz and members of council, the Iibrary board and branch planning team in attendance.. "We are delighted to be moving for- ward with ibis important next step," said Stuart Charles, Iibrary board chair. "The design of the branch is one that wilI fit in weIl with its neighbours. The îîght, warmth and welcoming aspect of the library combined with its environ- meiltalîy-sensitive Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED) certification standard wiîl resuit in a building that wiIl be appreci- ated and valued by its neighbours now and into the future." Other features of the new facihîty wiIl include a childrens section meas- uring almost 2,000 square feet, a group study room, a youth area, Internet sta- tions, a quiet study area and a section to read magazines and newspapers or peruse CDs. Council recently awarded a $2.4- million construction tender for the new branch. The Town is currently seeking over $1 million in funding through the Province's Municipal infrastructure Investmenî Initiative for the construc- tion of the new Iibrary branch. The facility wilI be one storey and 11,300 square feet, set on 0.83 acres of land. Its anticipated to open in December.
