The Halton Regional Police Service is currently seeking applications for volunteer auxiliary police officers, with successful candidates likely to begin training in January. The Auxiliary Policing Unit has been in operation since 1989. Auxiliary officers receive more than 100 hours of training including legal training in powers of arrest, ethics, traffic direction and use of force. These officers often assist regular officers at vanious annual events. They also accompany police constables on general patrol duties. The first phase of the selection process, wbîch consists of a general aptitude test, is planned for the second and third weeks of September. Applicants will receive writîen invi- tations that outline their testing dates, time and location.
