The joint venture, known as the McMaster-Halton Centre for Knowledge Transfer in Aging and Healt.h, will aim to promote increased learning for students of the university and improved care for residents in Halton's long-term care homes. While a physical centre won't bc huilt, the partnership will give Region staff a chance to go to McMaster and those in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the university a chance to corne to Hialton. This will create research opportuni- tics for students and faculty, learning opportunities for students and Halton staff working with seniors and teaching opportunities for Region staff. "Halton wiIl become a site for geron- tological research where McMaster stu- dents will receive valuable training," said Dr. Susan Elliott, dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at McMaster University "In addition, this collaboration witb Halton regional staff wtll identity ways in which to hest serve seniors and improve the health and well-heing of the aging population." Regional Chair Gary Carr and Dr. Elliott signed a Memorandum of Understanding recently to begîn the partnership. A three-year agreement will now be developed to address the specific func- tions of the McMaster-Halton Centre.
