NOTICE OF PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE Urn WHILLS T Alternate Water Supply for the Town of Milton Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Study Halton Region has initiated a Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) study for an alternate water supply to the'Town of Milton and the Halton Hills Highway 401 Corridor (see map). The Town of Milton water supply consists of a groundwater-based well system and a lake-based water supply by way of a transmission main on Regional Road 25. The Halton Water and Wastewater Master Plan Review (2002) identified the need for improvements to the lake-based water supply system that will address security of supply and service projected and approved growth in the service area. Each of the alternatives being considered includes the construction of a watermain and all alternatives, except one (Route C), include the installation of booster pumping stations to supply water at suitable pressures. The study is being conducted in accordance with the approved requirements of a Schedule 'B' study under the Municipal Class EA document (June 2000), which is an approved process under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. The Class EA process includes public and review agency consultation, an evaluation of alternatives, an assessment of the potential environmen- tal effects of the proposed improvements, and identification of reasonable measures to mitigate any adverse impacts that may result. The map above shows the approximate limits of the study area, the watermain route alternatives and potential booster pumping station locations. As a part of the study, a Public Information Centre (PIC) is planned to provide background information on the study and the various alternative solutions being considered, including a comparative analysis of those alternatives. It will also present the recommended alternative (subject to public comment and agency review), associated impacts and proposed mitigation measures. Representatives from the Region and its consultants will be present at the PIC to answer questions and discuss the next steps in the study.
