At the campaigns recent conclusion, $548,000 had been raised, surpassing its goal by more than $42,000. "We set our highest goal ever and this is the highest ever achieved. l'm very delighted," said Anne Fadie, exec- utive director of the United Way of Milton. "Its a lot of hard work by staff and volunteers." With 2007 being the 25th anniver- sry of the United Way of Milton, it's nice ta move into the yetr with good news, Fadie added. There are several reasons Eadie said she thinks the campaign was s0 suc- cessful. Firsî, they started a bit earlier last year, with the campaign kick-o[f in September with the Mayors Golf Tournameni. As usual, the campaign wound down hy Christmas, although funds continued ta trickle in into the new year. Also, people employed outside Milton wha givc ta the United Way through work arc rememhering ta des- ignate thc funds ta thc Milton hranch of thc organizalion, Eadie said, which is a message thats been preached for many ycars. Growth likely helped But the main rmason the campaign did se, well is likely the town's burgeon- ing population. 1I think new rcsidents - the ones who've been here two ta three years - feel this is their home now and they're supporting it through the United Way," Eadie said. Donations were collected through a direct mail, payroll deductions and spe- cial events. The Mayors Golf Toumnament alone raised $126.000. But this doesn't mean the local United Way can rest on their laurels, since the organization bas also received more reqnesîs for funding than ever hefore. "The increase in requests for money is more than the increase (in fonds) that's been îiaised," she explained, adding jusi fuse an agency requests funding doe-îî inean itîIl get it.
