This month, it means playing hard! This month is a busy time for all fall and winter teams. Our competitive curling team had an exhibition game at the Oakville Curling Club on October 30th winning against Iroquois Ridge 6-1. Their first game was at the Oakville Curling Club on November 6th against Iroquois Ridge, losing 7-5. The novice curling team had their first game also at the Oakville Curling Club on November 8th vs. Iroquois Ridge, unfortunately losing 5- 4. Looks like MD's curling team has found their rival early this season! With the support of S.A.A., the senior girls' basketball team was well supported during their final game on November 2nd. The intense game resulted in a tight loss of 28-27. The junior girls' basketball team is still continuing to play. They won 38-18 vs. White Oaks on November 2nd at MD, and put on a show in Acton on November 8th. Our mustangs are splitting ice in local arenas as the girls' hockey team is now into their 5th week of morning practices. Their first game is on November 21st at Glen Abbey Arena vs. Abbey Park. The team is very excited for their first overnight tournament in Waterloo this winter. The boys' hockey team participated in a tournament beginning November 8th and made a respectable performance. These teams are distributing hair-raising performances, but that's not the only thing being distributed! Midterms are given out on November 13th. Can you feel the excitement already? With midterms fresh in mind, Parents Night is being held on November 16th. Keep pushing those marks up, mustangs! The Student Parliament has been working hard behind the scenes and is planning a benefit concert on November 23rd from 7:30-9pm in support of our Christmas Food Drive and Food Bank. The very popular local band 'Topp Crime' will be playing! Tickets are $2 with a non- perishable item or $4 without. Guests are welcome, but must be signed in prior to the event. Remember; only one guest per student! Keep up our mustang pride by showing your support! "DATELINE DRURY" Ashley Michelle Stephen Carlisle Staples Jackson E.C. DRURY IION SCMGOL After hearing about Steve's so called 'Rocky' morning, we figured it would be best to send him oui as our investigative runner. Lured by the enchanting tmelodies of steel drums he made his glorious run to the locker bay, throwing up his hands in victory! (We won't mention his forehead's abrupt meeting with a swinging door, or maybe we jst di He was met by the representatives of the arts department, Ms. Bradley and Mr. DiGiorgio. They drew him in closer trying to sell him into ibis year's school trip to Cuba. The highlights were spilling out from dozens of the posters plastered all over our hallways. A personal favourite highlight of ours being 'Learn how to salsa dance!' Though for educational purposes we'il go with 'Visit UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Old Havana to study the 16th and 17th century architecture.' AIl students from grades 10 and up are invited to come! However, that's not all the arts department has been up to lately. These creative geniuses are neck deep in another project to help raise money for their departnent, including the arts, photography and drama. Just this past Monday, we attended an assembly for QSP Magazine Orders. The students wil sell magazine subscriptions and with every subscription they earn $10 for their school. Various incentives come in the fori of giant chocolate bars, and fluffy toy dogs, or 'for the more practical type a custont handheld fan, and for the hard working seller a discnan. So get out there, play safe and self' In other news, the girl's varsity basketball team just took home the honours in their latest match againsi Aldershot Lions. This playoff victory of 40-37 will bring thenm one step closer to the Halton Finals. Thes were rallied by the awesone performance of Meghan Greaves. leading the teani with 12 points, incliding the last three scores fromi the free throxx line! Their next challenge is Burlington Central, e ust hope oui girls don't fall asleep on the courts. We want to let Burlington Central think they have a chance against our Spartans...but they don't. Another notable victory for our Spartans is the Commencement of last years grads, which took place just ibis last Friday, November 3rd. Our grads walked across the stage with their heads held high as they received their hard earned highs school diplomas. Awards were given, speeches were made, and even a few tears were shed as the grads watched a slide show of their best inemories here ai Drury. The valedictorian for ibis year was Elissa Witman, and the school band gave an excellent performance, conducted by another highly accomplished grad, Ali Hill. Congrats to all our grads! You are sorely missed here ai the school ibis year. With graduation for tbis years grade twelve's looming closer and closer, we can only begin to fathon what our own Commencement will bring...
