We celebrated early, having our annual pumpkin-carving contest last Monday. There were 3 lucky winners this year. Mrs. Camani's grade 12 class won "The Scariest." The pumpkin was carved by Jessica Anderson and Laura Frank and was done as 'Jason,' with a hockey mask and all. Mr. Robertson's grade 9 class won "The Grossest" with "Pumpkin Puking Your Guts Out" made by Nick Maratovich and Holly Bilton. Last but not least is Mrs. Crans grade 9 class who won "Most Creative" with a scene from Sleepy Hollow. Maverick McLaren and Kirstyn Culbert-Kviring created this excellent display. School spirit was floating down the halls for this event. The pumpkin-carving contest was the end to the Student Parliament Halloween campaign to raise money to ship the gift boxes we created for the less fortunate. The cost of shipping is $7 per box, and our school has a grand total of 140 boxes. Money was raised for this from the school dance and the candy grams, which were distributed during 4th and 5th periods on Monday and Tuesday. Milton District would like to give a special thank you to the Milton Loblaws for supporting our pumpkin carving! Last week we had a brief visit from last year's MDHS graduates, who walked the halls once more when they came for Commencement last Friday. Graduates came from colleges and universities all over Canada. Some related their first year experiences with our grade 12's during the grad panel held in the theatre. Grade 12 students were able to ask questions regarding university life. It was very informative. We wish these former Mustangs the best of luck in all their future endeavours. Speaking of Mustangs, junior boys competed in a very important football game Monday after school, the boys took on Robert Bateman High School, and won 7 to 6. This win sends them to next week's playoffs. The winner of next week's game will also go to the finals. Good luck Mustang boys! That is it for this week's events at Milton District High School. Join us next week for another update. "DATELINE DRURY" Ashiey Michelle Sthe Carlisle Staples a E.C. DRURY HIGH SCEOOL Hope you're not all too hyper from al that Halloween, and are ready to take the bulk of the pre-midterm stress! (Oh boy) Speaking of Halloween, the dance this year ended up being a huge hit. Our own principal named it "the best dance at Drury ever." The costumes were especially creative, with everything from Shawn and Greg as the gorillas, to Fraser and Blake as "Adam and Steve" (nice wig), to gold digging Jennika attracted to our chick magnet Steve A. The police officers even cracked the occasional smiles as they supervised the crazy teenage dancing marathon and made sure everyone stayed in line. The night's successes are all thanks to our very own Dance Committee, composed of our favourites; Lindsay, Kym, Jen, Wade, Rec-Anne, Shelynn, Alysha, and Laura, who organised the whole event and made sure everyone had a memorable Halloween. AND THERE WERE GLOW STICKS!!! Also here at E. C. Drury, we had Take Our Kids to Work Day. Grade 9 students had the opportunity to attend a relative's workplace for the day and experience what life is like with a fuli-time job. We are sure this was an enjoyable experience for both parents and students. This first hand grasp of working life will help to prepare them in choosing a future career. One such career option for them could involve music. A good option to further their musical talents might involve joining the Ontario Honour Band, which is composed of the best high school musicians from across Ontario. This skilled entourage gave a unbelievably stirring performance here at Drury this past Wednesday. We all watched them curiously as they marched around the school preparing for their performance. Their rather flashy outfits were forgiven after their final bar. Our Grads will get to listen to our own band (which we believe may rival that of the Ontario Honour Band, maybe... in a few years) at Commencement this Friday. Fortunate graduates will finally get the chance to walk across the stage and receive their diplomas for all of their hard work throughout high school. Sec you there, Grads! "THE ROYAL REPORT" Erin liothorington Lindsay Johosion Julia Riddoll BISHOP REDING 1ION SCUGOL Here at Bishop Reding, we put a lot of focus on academics, but we also celebrate our great sports teams as well. Last Thursday was the fall sports pep rally. Our MC's for the event, Leta, Zak and Taylor, had everyone in stitches. This was a great preparation for our varsity boys' football team, as they had their game against MM Robinson Thursday night. Each of the fall teams were introduced to the school and given a huge round of applause as they entered into the gym through a cloud of smoke. Bishop Reding showed their overwhelming school spirit on this day and the teams were not disappointed. On the academic side of things, almost 100 students made honour roll for the 2005-2006 school year! This awe-inspiring number says quite a bit about the brilliant minds of our students and the teaching ability of our staff. For their grade 9 year, Michal Chwalek had the highest average, closely followed by Keegan Guiolin and Emily Mifsud. In grade 10, Alex Shembri had the highest average, with Nikolina Jerbic in second place and Krista Dersott in third. For last year's grade ls, the top three consisted of Sean Casselman, Nicole Kozak and Nicole Rich-Portelli, in order. Congratulations to all honour roll students! With so many intelligent and involved students, the Awards Committee had quite a job on their hands. Business Awards were presented to Tina Jensen and Rebecca Trischler, while winners of the Waterloo Math contest consisted of King Chi Kwan, Kevin Ecclestone, Nikolina Jerbic, and Adam Rietman. Other award winners included, Marika Dabek, Joanna Bayoneto, Megan Johnston, Katie lolland, Leta LaRush, Melissa Sasso, Elizabeth Kiy, and Shelby DeSousa. Lastly, the 2005-2006 Student of the Year was James Dorgo. A huge thank you goes to all the sponsors, and to al the award recipients for making our school so extraordinary. On Wednesday November , the grade nines had a field day (literally). They had the opportunity to experience what it is like to take on the work force during Take Your Child to Work Day. This day is a great opportunity to shadow a parent, or someone in a career that interests the student. Judging by the plethora of students raving about their day, one can assume this day was quite a success. The question is, did the raving pertain to the knowledge gained by this trip. or to time spent away from a classroom? One final tip from your Inside Sources; study hard because midterm reports go out on November 17th. We hope everyone enjoys the last weeks of fall before the snow touches the ground. Thanks BR, and have a great week!
