At the Halton Catholic District School Board, incumbent trustee Rev. David Wilhelm is the only contender. The lone candidates weren't to be officially acclaimed until after 5 p.m. yesterday, which was the deadline for candidates to withdraw At press time, Town Clerk Troy McHarg was in the process of verifying that each candidate meets the necessary qualifications, which include being at least 18 years old, a Canadian citizen, a resident or landowner in Milton, etc. "There are a number of different rea- sons why a person could be disquali- fied," he noted. Once hes done, an official list of candidates will be posted on the Town's Web site, www.milton.ca. The number of candidates in each ward is actually down from the 2003 election, when Wards 1, 2 and 4 each had seven contenders. Last time, Krantz had five challengers looking to unseat him from the position hes now held for 26 years. This year also marks the first time since 1997 that Barry Lee hasn't been acclaimed for the Wards 1 and 3 local and regional councillor spot.
