Town council presented the award to the 82-year-old Monday night for her contributions to the community, partic- ularly at the Milton Seniors' Activity Centre (MSAC). "I'd like to thank everyone for the bonour," Winney said of the recogni- tion. "l'm really bumbled. " Town Community Program Co- ordinator Janet Davidson outlined the volunteer work that earned Winney the titie, like preparing weekly hot lunches and barbecues for those who stop by the MSAC, helping out with large-scale events and catering monthly to a group of seniors with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. Shes also a member of Allendales ladies' auxiliary. In addition ta, receiving the award, Winney was presented with a gift from the MSAC advisory board and a lifetime bus pass from the Town's transit com- mittee. This year marks the fourtb year in a row a member of MSAC bas been named the Senior of the Year. The award is a Provincial initiative that was established to give each municipality in Ontario the opportuni- ty to honour an outstanding local sen- ior. Recipients are those aged 65 or over who have enriched the social, cultural or civic life of the community wvithout thought of personal or financial gain.
