Caruana can still be founid singing, either as part of the Milton Choristers or with other groupa. But more often than not, shes the one holding the conductors wand. coaxing beautiful sounds from her students as music teacher and choir director at Bishop Reding High School. And lately, sbe's been working on something new When Caruana realized the Milton Cbildren's Choir was no longer running, she decided to take matters into ber own banda. She wanted to make sure tbe opportuni- ty she'd bad as a youngster was still available in ibe community From that sprung an idea to, collaborate with the Adoramus Cbildren's Choir, and expand it to include the Cantabile Chamber Choir for older youth. Caruana is inviting teens from 14 t0 18 years old t0 join in on the cxpcricncc. Rchcarsals stant in the faîl. Thry'll be held Wednesdays froru 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Knox Presbytcrian Church. "Its kind of like coming full cir- cIe," Caruana said. "It (the Milton Children's Choir) got me startcd, and now I m coming back to con- duct something similar." Ail types of music played Students wiîI perforru a wide variety of music in the choir, Caruana said, from classical t0 jazz and pop. Although an audition la neces- sary Caruanas quick to point out ifs not for ber to, weed oui inferior voices, but îo, hear teens' ideas and familianize herself wiîb tbeir voices. This is the fourth season of the Adoramus choir, a community choir thaïs supported hy Knox Presbyterian Church. it includes the Angclus choit for children agcd six to cight, and the Gloriana choir for youths rne to 13, in addition to the Cantabile choir. Thc Angelus choir rehearses from 5.45 to 6:25 p.m. Mondays at Knox Preshyternan Church on Main Street, while the Gloriana choir practises from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Adoramus founder and director Sonja van de Hoef said she takes her role very seriously. "We're building the next genera- tion of Canadian choral singers," she said. Singers in the Gloriana and Cantabile choirs will have a unique opportuniiy in the faîl, van de Hoef said. Tbey've been invited by Canadian composer Ronald Beckett to participate in tbe fail CD record- ing of bis sacred opera, Ruth. "Its an amazing thing to have your name appear on a CD," van de Hoef said.
