Regional Councillor Janice Wright Honorary Chair, 2006 Halton Children's Water Festival Halton Region's commitment to sustaining fresh water resources has always been a priority. Throughout the year Halton residents work hard to conserve water by actively participating in Halton's water conservation programs, but as temperatures increase for the summer, so too does the use of water. While there are a number of ways to conserve water, the first step to understanding the importance of water conservation is through education. That is why we invest in important to our Iprograms that are d residents, including eh the Halton Children's Water Festival. In 2005 Halton residents consumed an average of 256L/cap/day. This is the equivalent amount of water needed to fill almost 3.5 bathtubs per day per person. With educational programs like the Halton Children's Water Festival, Halton's children will learn about water conservation while also having an opportunity to learn about water protection, health and safety, science and technology and stewardship. By instilling important principles like water conservation and environmental stewardship in our children now, we can help to ensure that the next generation will enjoy the same water resources we have today. It is in everyone's best interest to conserve water. Water conservation not only results in significant savings on your water bill, but it will also help preserve more water for the environment, and helps to maintain the operating efficiency of Regional water purification and sewage treatment plants. There are countless benefits to water conservation, let's continue to be water wise and work to conserve our water. For water conservation tips and information, visit www.halton.ca/waterconservation.
