As light dawned, investigators and onlookers converged at the White Drive home, which was a charred shell of its former self. Gone was the entire garage - which contamned the humEt exterior of a Jeep - and the second storey was gutted. Hours after the blaze was put out, curlous residents were still watching the firefighters [rom hehind the cor- doned off area, and the [ai smell of burnt rubber was canied with the wind. "ires atiract people like a magnet," said training technician Barry Kory of the Milton Fire Depariment. The home, located near Syer Drive, was fully engulfed in flames when [ire crews arrived just after 4:30 a.m., Kory said. Neighbouring homes were evaduai- ed as firefighters worked to knock down the flames. "When it was sale toi go in, we did a search andl rescue and found the 22- year-old son in the hasement," saîd Kory explaining the maxi had heen sleeping. He was later identified as Matthew Grant. It was thanks wo a thermal imaging camera dhat Grant - who was the only one home - was found in time, said chief fire prevention officier Doug Shorit. "Wiihout the device, we may have had a fatality. Because we had it we were able to locate the man mn a zero visiility situation and remove him to safety veiy quicly," he said. It seems the fire siarted in the garage, Kory said.
