Proposed health-care restructuring The Canadian Champion, Fniday, March 17, 2006-A7 wiII hurt quait nf ýre it hn m.ita!s on loJkout for strangemr Halton MP Garth Turner~ and a copy was filed with The Champion.) DEAR EDITOR: A while ago 1 read some- where thàit health care in Halton is the best of aIl surrounding areas. l'm a pretty healthy guy and I didn't expect 10 end up in the hospital in the near future. But then it happened. On December 27, I had a stroke and went through three hospitals, so 1 feel more than qualifhed to publicly acknowl- edge ihat it sure is truc - health care in Halton is excellent. Starting with the ambulance service personnel who rushed me to Mississaugas Trillium hospital's stroke unit, where my condition was sîabili.zed, and then to Milton District Hospital for therapy sessions. However, since Miltons hos- pital only offers occupational îherapy, I was sent to Oakville- Trafalgar Memorial Hospital where i spent most of my time undergoing extensive therapy I cao sure say that the profession- aIs in the therspy department are a dedicated group of people. In a few weeks I was out of the wheelchair and walking - first wiîh a cane, then without. My left arm stilI needs to be fine-tuned, and I'm attending therapy sessions twice a week in Oakville-Trafalgar hospital's oulpaîtent rehab unit, where the same high quality of therapy continues. The food was excellent, and if 1 have a ininor coînplaint about my sîay ihere, ihere is but one. As somne of ihe servings of jam, margarine, butter, juices and yogurt come in sealed con- tainers, a stroke patient wiîb one hand out of commission isn't able to open these. The kitchen staff deliver the food and rush away The nurses are most often t00 busy to attend to these maîters, as they are busy wiîh more important îssks, and seldom can help. So who's left? Its the support staff. They were really wonderful and Furik right to oppose fluoridatinc DEAR EDITOR: t'm wiiting in response t0 the many letters being written regarding the potential fluoridation of our waîer, sud whaî I've come 10 experience as the thîrd-rate nature of the supposed experts working in many levels of govemment. I was one of the three people who made a pres- entation t0 the Region regarding chlorination of our water. Whsî the expert supporters - who obviously weren't there and somehow missed our written presenîsîton - should know was that we weren't againsi chlonnation, but their choîce of disinfectant. Our choice was ozonalion, as is found in the stale of Israel, the cîîy of Montreal and many of the swimming establishments îhroughouî the U.S. There are great lisis regarding ozonation on the Intemnet should you finaliy discover that you can be experîly prepared withoui the Neanderîhals found in the Region - and obviously some letter wriîers of our local paper. As for expents, as Suzanne Turner pointeil out last week, Waikerton was lu the care of so-called professionals - the Ministry of Environment - wbo were failures in doing their duties. The Sîrobel broîhers didn't apply the chiorine, sud t îhîuk îhey ail shouid have bei charged wiih manslaughter. Ar mayor sud CAO, who were supi es. Mind you, Walkerton is su iowu not dissimilar from our o s big problem similar t0 the pis as run by our current planning I mention insufficient lime ail lions, uudersized garages, majt roads that cau't properiy handie ment, just for starters. So you wsnî 10 be guides experts? You're welcome to il,b away from me sud my Iam experts aren't good enough.
