In speaking with The Champion Tuesday, Boughton said the February 7 surgery went "very well," with doctors confirming their original belief that the tumour wasn't cancerous. The downtown businessman, who bas operated Mikes Barber Shop on Main Street for the past four decades, said be bas received a huge outpouring of support and friendship from the community over the past few weeks. I feel quite a lot of gratitude for the people that called me, and even the people who are just thinking about me," he said. He noted his family bas been "exceptional" through the whole process. Boughton was vacationing in Las Vegas last month with his wife when be suffered a seizure, which led to doctors finding a small tumour on his brain lin- ing behind his left car. He said his recovery is expected to take anywhere from six to eight weeks - which he deemed to be "a bit too long" for his liking. I miss the people," he remarked, but added he bas made a decision not to go back to work until hes 100 per cent. Just prior to his surgery, Boughton had his head shaved as part of a fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society and Milton District Hospital. While the initial goal was to bring in $5,000 before Boughton's surgery, the charitable venture bas now far exceed- ed that and raised over $30,000. Cash or cheque donations for the fundraiser can still be made at Mikes Barber Shop, located at 148 Main St. E. The money raised will be split 50/50 between the Canadian Cancer Society and Milton District Hospital, with the funds going toward a CAT scan machine.
