Local lawn bowling ace David Anderson can certainly attest to that, with his seasoned Etobicoke-hased fours squad recently strik- ing gold at the Canadian Bowls Championships in Kitchener. It was the sec- ond titie in three years tor the 41 - year-old Milton vice and his team- mates, who this time around had to caîl on their composure as much as anything cIsc in order to come out on top in an especially competitive field. Two losses in their tîrst three matches left Anderson and comnpany needing to tend off defeat throughout the remainder of round-robin play to have a shot at the finals. Photo by GRAHAM PAINE "We looked at it David Anderson is ail smiles after like 'We're play- securing gold once again in Canadian ing terrible yet Bowls Championship play. we're still in it. If we can play like we're capable of we've still got a chance,"' recalled Anderson, who won the national singles championship in 2002. Refusing to, be upstaged the rest of the way, Etobicoke delivered decisive wins over B.C. (22-15), Quehec (18-9) and Alberta (19- 10) and battled to an Il - Il stalemate with Manitoba -whose skip Steven Shinnie came through with an unhelievable perform- ance in an epic battle that saw Anderson tie things up in the final end. T1here'd be no such drama when the two teams met again for gold, as Etobicoke overcame a slow start and Shinnie faltered on a high-risk shot in the I 2th end that clearly shifled the momentum away from Manitoba. Anderson's foursome would cushion its lead over the balance of the championship clash to prevail 19-13. see MILTON on page A24 The first COMPLE Weight CONTROL Program Date: August 3lst - Time: 7:00 pm Place: Leisure Centre. 1100 Main St.
