The Town is working to interconnect its traffic signal system to the Regional Road signal system, which would in turn allow for better signal co-ordination and a smoother trip for motorists. Council approved using the Town of Oakville for traffic signal maintenance at ils meeting last week, which is one of the firat atepa toward improving the flow of ares traffic. A report from Director of Engineering Services Paul Cripps explained the Town of Oakville uses the type of equipmenî required for the interconneelion. Some council members applauded the move toward better signal co-ordination, like Wards 2 and 4 Councillor Ron Funik. 'I'm pleased to hear this- it's certainly something I've been aaking for for quite awhile," he said. The Town plans 10 install new traffic sig- nais on arterial roads that interseet with Regional roads, while the Region will install ncw signals on east-west arterial roads within urban Milton. Mr. Crippa said the Town's firat step will be tying the Thompson Road signala mbt the Derry Road syatem. The timing of this is dependent on the Derry Road widening project, which is anîicipaîed 10 be finished by next year.
