The I 8-year-old Miltonian was part of Ontario's 19-and-under base- bail teain that toppled defending champion British Columbia 5-1 for Canada Summer Gaines gold. "It feit great. We had ainazing teain chemistry, which is essentially what put us over the top," said Tennant Sunday afternoon, upon his tri- umphant retuin. A higbly-versatile player wbo led Bishop Reding to the al-Ontario Blue Jay Cup semnifinals at SkyDomne in 2004, he was selected as one of three teain catchers but wound up patrolling third base for the chamnpionship - attended by a few thousand spectators. "With that big a crowd you've just got to take a deep breath, relax and focus on what needs to be done. 1 think that's been my biggest improvement recently, the mental gaine." 'Mat certainly seemed to be the case in the bottoin of the third inning, when with runners at first and second Tennant came up with a big ground out to end BC's rally. Ontario would score three times in its haîf of that inning and twice more in the fourth framne to eam revenge for a champi- onship loss to BC in 2001. The BR graduate cashed in the final mun when hie was bit by a pitch with the bases loaded. "We had some key bits in tbe finals - being Patient and waiting for our spots," he said. Tennant only played one other gamne in Regina - seoring a mun by stealing third and home in last Thresday's 11 -0 dismantling of Prince Edward Island - but bie certainly wasn't disheartened by that. "Nobody complained about their playing time. It was ail about the team. Rigbt from the time they start- ed selections everyone bad the goal of winning gold and we alI kept our eyes on the prize." Ontario gave up just nine runs in six games, with its stiffest test com- ing in Wednesday's 5-4 decision over Manitoba. An 8-2 win over Alberta put Ontario in the finals, wbile other wins came agalnst New Brunswick (10-0) and Nova Scotia (5-2). Tennant is set to retuin for bis sophomore season with Califomia's Cerro Coso, but flot before resumiing play with the Senior Red Sox, wbom be's sbown swrongly with botb on the mound and at the plate this summer. "He's certainly been an intricate part of our ineup," said Red Sox nmager George Moore.
