A2 - The Canadian Champion, Friday, May 27. 2005 Diesel closes Steeles Several hundred litres of diesel fuel spilled onto a section of Steeles Avenue near Hornby after two transport trucks and a car collided Tuesday morning. The diesel leaked from one of the trans- port trucks after the collision ruptured its personal fuel tank at about 7:30 a.m., police said. Steeles Avenue from Sixth Line to Hornby Road was closed for several hours, forcing motorists to seek alternate routes. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries to any of the occupants in the three vehicles, police said. The Halton Emergency Spili Response Team was called to assess the situation and contain the spill. A spokesperson from the team said the diesel was quickly cleaned up and didn't enter any ground water. Driver refuses to stop A man faces several charges in connec- tion with a high-speed police pursuit yes- terday morning. At about 4:17 a.m. an officer on patrol attempted to stop a speeding 1991 Dodge pick-up truck on Ontario Street South. The driver refused to stop and fled through a number of nearby residential streets before going onto the E.C. Drury High School property and exiting the vehi- cle. Halton's canine unit was brought in and located the suspect a short distance away. There were no injuries caused during the early-morning incident. A 24-year-old Kitchener man faces one count each of possession of stolen property over $5,000, theft over $5.000, possession of break and entry instruments, flight from police and driving while disqualified.
