Dear Editor: l'in an employee of Vanier Centre for Women in Milton who's trying ta help make 2005 a year those battling breast cancer will neyer forget by participating in the third annual Weekend ta End Breast Cancer. The event will run September 9 to Il and will benefit Toronto's Princess Margaret Hospital. l'Il be joining thousands of women and men for a 60-kmn walk over two days to raise fonds and awareness for breast cancer pro- grains. One in every nine Canadian women will be dîagnosed wîth breasi cancer in their lifetime, and Weekend to End Breasi Cancer participants have the opportunity ta make a difference in the fight against this horrible disease. On April 7 I hosted a barbecue fundraiser for staff at the Vanier Centre and raised $1,240. l'd like to thank local merchants such as M&M Meat Shop, Loblaws, A&P, Home Hardware, Shoppers Drug Mari, Wal-Mart, Sobeys and Giant Tiger for their support of this fundraiser. A special thanks also goes out ta the Mohawk Inn for cooking our roast beef and making the generous donation of a dinner for four for aur raffle. I've been thrilled with the sup- part of' staff at bath Vanter Centre and Maplehurst. There were 160 people from the two facilities wbo antended the barbecue. In order ta participate, eacb Weekend ta, End Breast Cancer walker must train for the event and raise a minimum of $2,000. I've been able to reach that goal already, and am still collecting funds.
