Regional council endorses Bb' rev*nonle to prawtfb A second municipal and regional response paper to the Province's draft growtb plan tbat forecasts a population of 800,000 in Halton by 2031 bas been endorsed by Flalton council and is off to the Miniater of Public Infrastructure Renewal. The plan builds on tbe Places to Grow discussion paper released by tbe Ministry of Public Infrastructure Renewal last July. It's a document aimed at stopping urban sprawl and focusing compact development on 25 urban growtb centres, including downtown Milton, midtown Oakville and downtown Burlington. The joint response tbat counicil approved Wednesday says Halton and its municipal- ities fully support tbe plan's vision and guiding principles. A presentation from Halton Director of Planning and Transportation Jane Clobecy noted tbe response also aays: * Infrastructure building must give prior- ity to building transit connecting urban centres. 1 A vision for Ontario agriculture must be developed to understand tbe value and future of fanning in tbe Greater Golden Horsesboe. - Affordable bousing svill require sus- tainable funding and incentives. - Sub-area growtb strategies must not duplicate current municipal planning. * Tbe Region should be responsible l'or distribution of growtb among tbe local municipalities.
