"T1he tractor-traiter truck mighît be a familiar sight on the road. yet few ever sit behind the svheel and see it fromn our perspective." In 16 years, Mr. Morley has seen significant changes in the ss'orld of trucking. svîth the addition of tracking systeims on traiter' and cabs so the company knoss s cactly \vhere the vehicle is at any ns Ven minute, and ntrcltaîîrtl ittovations in the truck.,, tieni selves. I-is nexv Freightliner ts equipped with a 1<) speed automatîc transmission, which svould have been unheard ol a fess years ago. Mr. Morley said being a good truck driver is more than Just step- ping behind the wheel. A driver must be able to drive a truck (obvi- ously) but also navigate through numerous maps, know the ruies of the road, be aware of the truck's safety and be able to recognize truck problems when he breaks down so that he can tell his dis- patcher (or service man) exactly svhat is wrong with the tmuck. Being a Road Knight is a life-iong distinction, but Mr. Morley and his colleagues are only active for two years, volunteering and talking to groupa. Mr. Morley is reimbursed for travel expenses by his employer. who actually encouraged him to apply for the position. Having a Road Knight driving one of your trucks is considered quite an honour by the trucking business svorld. for your Harrop Gallery Fliyer in Today's Canadian Champion!
