The plans were put forward by PenRetail il Ltd. -the corporation tbat also owns Milton Mal - and went before tbe Town's administration and planning committee last week and counicil last night for information purposes. Lyn Townsend Renaud, solicitor for PenRetail 11, said tbe proposai is for a neighbourbood centre'- tbat ber client wants to include tbings lilce a food store, drug store, bank, restaurants and a sports therapy clinic. She noted lasi year. the Cineplex Galaxy Cinemas movie theatre chain bad expressed inter- est in the site, but due to the time that's passed she said the theatre bas abandoned its interest and is now looking elsewhere in Milton. "Clearly we would prefer to have the theatres on our site," she said. She said if a theatre was to express interest now, her client would embrace that. She noted PenRetail Hl will stili make it known to anyone in the theatre industry that it would like to have a the- atre locate in the proposed centre. Ms Townsend Renaud said ber client first filed an application for the Derry Road lands a few years ago that was "sizably larger" - about 420,000 square feet. Since then, PenRetail Il bas downsized its pro- posal to about 126,000 square feet and resubmnitted its application to the Town tast year. She said PenRetail Il would also like to accomn- modate the new library the Town will be building in tbe future on ita land, but noted discussions on this baven't conienced.
