During National Volunteer Week, we would like to recog- nize those people who have contributed their lime, energy and expertise in countless ways. Distress Line volunteers are the backbone of our Centre. Each volunteer improves the quality of lite of our callers and the overali wellness of our community. Our dedicated trainers give tirelessly to ensure our volun- teers are equipped with the specialized skills necessary to meet the needs of our callers. Their contribution also extends to developing and delivering specialized work- shops for local businesses and community groups. We gratefully acknowledge the volunteers who work behind the scenes to enhance our technology and opera- tional eff iciency - allowing us to spend more time focusing on our callers. And, finally, it is through the leadership and commitment of our Board of Directors that we continue t0 meet the chang- ing needs of our community. She started with the Canadian Cancer Society when a member of her church, Mr. MeNeil, approached her ta, help with a resi- dential campaign, canvassing door-to-door. (Stili the highest revenue for the Canadian Cancer Society). Through her long commitment ta the Canadian Cancer Society she was the Campaign chairperson when they had an office an Main St. E. She presently works as an Area Captain in urban sauthwest & Speclal Events. Cancer touched Carol's awn lite when she was diag- nosed with breast cancer in 1991. Now a survivor, she has even more of a reason to support the Canadian Cancer Society. Her son is alsa a recent cancer survivar and she sadly lostoa brother ta cancer. Carol had seen the resuit of donations ta the Canadian Cancer Society inciuding lite expectancies extended, chlldhood lukemenia rates under more contrai and sci- entfic research making a large difference for cancer patients. As Carol herseit said, 'It is everywhere, we have a real reasan ta flght, keep up and keep gaing." Carl encourages volunteers wlth the Canadian Cancer Society ta get their lists tinlshed and hapes the people of Milton continue their generous support of a disease that touches everyone's lite.
