Halton Regional Police Depuly Chief Mike Kingston said a combination of factors led tu the appearance of three constables and three detectives on the liat. "A major contributing factor is the addition of overtimne to an offlcer's base salary,' sald Deputy Chief Kingston. Not as weighty a factor, but somnething that could have tipped the officers into the $ 100.000 range when combined with overtime and pald duty assignmnents, was a retroactive pay hike that came with a contract settlement last year, according 10 the deputy chief. Paid duty, extra policing done by officers in their off-timne, said Mr. Kingston, operates differently in Halton than in many other Ontario communities and therefore could also push an officer's salary up. $139.000 and the commissioners of conimunity and social servie- see OVERTIME on page il Toyota's Biggest Sales Event et the Year.
