The fund was created so that local residents or groups can apply for money the Town receives from Slots at Mohawk. The grants were awarded to: Milton Skating Club, $3,174 to support travel costs associated with four people attending the 2005 Skate Canada Convention; Karen Cseff, $630 and Laurie McDonell, $755, both for Skate Canada Convention travel costs; Tracy Griffiths, $812 to help cover travel expenses associated with attending the Professional Skaters International Conference and Trade Show; Milton District Hospital Foundation, $59,000 to purchase a blood gas analyzer. Brookville Minor Baseball Association will also receive up to a maximum of $14,000 to build a batting/pitching cage complex at Brookville park. The funding will be released once the association is able to match the grant. These grants were given under the 2004 community fund pro- gram, which had a budget of about $640,000. Of that, almost $30,)00 is still remaining and will be carried over into the 2005 program that's just getting underway with an approxi- mate $500,000 budget. Milton council approved the updated guidelines and application process for the 2005 program at its March 29 meeting. The community fund has provid- ed 210 cash grants to individuals and non-profit organizations totalling about $1.9 million since it was created four years ago. /Ward boundaries undergo review Local residents could see some changes made to Milton's ward boundaries down the road. Milton council directed staff last week to undertake a formal ward boundary review for the 2009 elections. "The Town of Milton is a rapidly growing commu- nity and it is sound municipal management practice to evaluate the implications of such growth on local polit- ical representation," a report from Town Clerk Troy McHarg said. The report showed that Ward I has had the most dramatic increase in the number of eligible voters, going from 2,735 in 1997 to 9,336 this year. Ward 4 follows closely behind with an increase of about 5,500 voters from 1997 to now. "In the future, population growth is expected to con- tinue in wards 1, 2 and 4," Mr. McHarg's report said. Currently the Town has four wards, each having two local councillors. There's also two regional/local coun- cillors - one representing wards I and 3 and the other, wards 2 and 4.
