Here's just a sample of over !-Phone calis fraudulent Local Jaycees notfundraising by telephone By MELANIE HENNESSEV The Champion The president of the Milton Jaycees is cautioning local residents against giving money to telemarketers who say they're with the Junior Chamber of Commerce after reports of about five suspicious calls over the past week or so. Mike Luzar told The Champion Wednesday the local Jaycees also known as the junior chamber aren't doing any telemarketing in Milton. He noted the Burlington Jaycees are doing some fundraising by phone, but said they've been specitically instructed to only call within Burlington. Mr. Luzar tirst becamne aware of the situ- ation last Friday when he leamed a man had contacted the Milton Chamber of Commerce to report he was solicited by someone svho saîd they're from the junior chamber. "He was asked if he would be donatîng again this year because he did last year." Mr. Luzar said. But sînce the man actually didn't donate last year. he became suspicious. Mr. Luzar saîd the local chamber then heard from four or five more people who've had similar calîs. lt*s etther somebody that bas no scru- pies whaiso)ever or uts a very aggressîve telemarketer,- Mr. Luzar said.
