Kitchen design trends were consistent. Cabinet doors with an oak veneer on particle board wvere a popular builder Style. Dark colours in a mahogany stain and a golden oak were favoured. Many cabinet doors had the handies mounted in the centre of the door. The cabinets were usually assembled on the job and fastened direct to the walls wîth no backs on them. Post formed nodrîp counter- ftops wîth a raîsed lip and four inch back- splash were a standard feature. Butcher- block maple-look laminate was hot. Colour selection in lamînate was much more lîmîted than what is available today. WVe saw many farm kitchens f rom Acton, Georgetown and Campbelvlle that were very lîkely dry kitchens convert- ed in Grandmas tîme. Great Grandpa may have built these kitchens himself. Our judges had a diff icuit time choos- îng fîve finalists, from the one hundred and twenty-four entries. A.G.E. above the range microwave, Kîndred Granite sînk and Moen European style faucet added to the makeover. Beautîtone paint in a new fashionable colour pulled it ail together.
