A grade 6 student from Our Lady of Victory School started the night off playing bag pipes n01 much smaller than him, followed mbt the gymnasium by school staff and visiting dignitaries. Although students have heen attending Guardian Augets for more than a month, this was their chance -and that of those who make Guardian Angels function each day -10 show off their sehool 10 parents and siblings. And if the filled-to-capacity attendance was any indication, the opportunity was warmnly received. The snip of a ribhon and the hlessiog of classroomn crucifixes were highlighîs of the ceremony, as was the school choirs dehut performance. "'Me opening of a school is a sigoificant occasion in looking after our future," said Hatton MPP Ted Chudleigh. "Nothing is more important." The opening of Guardtan Angels, he said, is another step "along the way 10 seamless growth." Joyce Savoline, Halton chair, addressed the importance of schools in children's lives. "Sehools are a genesis where young minds take hold. Il's the focal point of their leaming." she said. To students, she said: "t hope your sehool espenience is filîrd with laughter, joy and success." Principal Sonia Bien spoke from her heart. 1I feel our society is in good hands as you hecomne our future leaders," she bold her students. Bishop of Hamilton Diocese Anthony Tonnos gave an inspira- tional message. He spoke of the school, church and home AI heing important components in teachiog children.
