6 - The Canadian Champion, Tuesday, September 7, 2004 *Comment Let's watch out for the young ones today Schaol's in, Milton. Taday thousands of local yaungsters head ta clans - many for the first time. It's an exciting and nerve-wracking time for both children and parents alike. But it can also be a particularly dangeraus time, with school buses laading and unlaading children ail over tawn and young ones crassing busy intersections on their way tai school. It's a lime when a little driver impa- tience or sheer carclesanets can be costly - even deadly. Remember ta exercise extra caution when traveling through town before achool begint and after classes let out, because chances are you'll be paasing by a schaul, school crossing area or designated pick-up/drap-off site. 0f course school crossing guards and bus drivers are usually good about watching out for potential dangers, but it's everyonc's responsibility ta safe- guard aur children. Be sure ta stop at Ieast 20 metres behind a schaal bus when the red ligbts begin ta flash and remember that schoal buses stop at ail railway cross- ings and that traffic is required ta, stop in both directions of a stopped school bus, except if the raad is divided by a median. Familiarizmng yaurself with echool zone areas and giving yaurseîf a few extra minutes ta get ta work or mun errands can alsa, ga a long way toward preventing an accident. A little extra care and patience shouldn't be too much ta ask when considering the preciaus cargo aboard those buses we ail get caught behind from time tai time. *Our Readegrs Write 7ratmt of our local p*rks la shme Milton in need of continuing education facility scnaA- e, ionIUI I'm vM sy *ie by teway peo- weve spant mion of dollar ta pro- vidle oaualdre safe plae tu platy and massy people donst cae to kee thest dem and frac Ofdebti. i ws& to Lot Spoat Paak cvey day aniaaad ut *di tise gasbapiad dos fec*ef belÉsd by meUlais peciple. 1 -ol un«*M -u -yn M Ibo" po*â ne fS o frum s H - m y - --vi "dkw e why do it in a publie petit? Most immediate, in my opinion, is the fact that there are three high requiring continuing education. The closest are Sheridan Callege campuses in Oakville and Brampton, yet there's no public transportation tai either. Not ail studenta have available tsn't an education facility in Milton - especially with the increasing population - mare important than a Wal-Mart? H. Shaver Milton Intermodal terminal simply doesn'"t belong here Dear Editor: t think it's appropriate that we have been reminded that the proposed CN Intermadal site is still an an- going issue for Milton. I'm certain minembers of RA[L (Residents Affected by Internodal Lines) welcomes Haiton MP Gary Carr's involvement in opposition lt the building of thit The proposed facility wdl be a large, noisy and dusty industrial site which belongs in an industrial area - not down the road fromti aur hospital and new subdivi- sions.
