The houses, located at 155 and 167 Mary Street, were recently acquired by the Town t0 create more parking spaces for the downtown core and future Town Hall expansion. "~The Town bas undertaken the process of determining the demand for Town Hall parking wbich, gîven the already large demand for parking in the downtown, it's clearly evident that there will be a need for additioîîal parking," a report from Director of Planning and Development Mel Iovio stated. A recently-conducted heritage assess- ment study determined both buildings bave bistorical/arcbitcctural menit and tbe best option would be to leave tbem in their cur- rent locations. Anotber recommended option was to relocate both bomes, wbicb is the option staff' arc supporting. The resolution went on to say that if council docs go forward with the reloca- lion, several conditions sbould be met, such as both homes being used for residential purposes, the new owners having 50 restore the exteriors to their original character and the bouses being designated under the Ontario Heritage Act. These suggestions were ineorporated into the Town's relocation strategy. If the Town can't fmd anyone who wants 50 relocate the homes for residential use, staff will then consider designatmng the buildings for publie use.
