Photos by GRAHAM PAINE New Milton Day Centre to serve 120 deaf clients Ground was recently broken for a new facility tor the Milton Day Centre, which will service deaf indi- viduals who are developmentally delayed. The Milton Day Centre will be located just north of Hwy. 401 on 70 acres of land near the corner of Regional Road 25 and Campbellville Road. Ground was broken for the facility June 25 in a cer- emony at the site. Most clients wiIl be fromn Drury The majority of the clients wilI be graduates of the Emest C. Drury Sehool for the Deaf - the largest such school in Canada. The centre, run by Bob Rumbail Associations for the Deaf, will teach job skills, life skills, literacy, basic math and Intemet training, and will assist witb job placement. By building this new centre, the Bob Rumbal Associations for the Deaf<(BRAD) will be able îo dou- ble the number of' clients now bcing servcd. a spokesperson said. The current Milton Day Centre provides activities for 60 people. The cost of the ncw facility will be covered through funds raised as part of its campaign now underway. The campaign bas achieved about 30) per cent of its goal of $1.5 million, and appeals are being made to businesses, individuals, founidations and service clubs. For almost 50 years, Rev. Bob Rumbal as been an advocate for the deaf.
