18-C'hamnpion Country, Tuesday, June 8, 2004 Mo-torcyc1ists prompt parking >Campbellville getting readyn complaints in Campbellville to celebrate its 9Oth birthday By ROBIN DOWNTON- .special to 1-he Champion Each spring and summer brings motorcycle enthusiasts out in droves to Campbellville. In fact, the village is listed on a few Web sites as one of the top motorcycle routes in Ontario - where riders stop to enjoy food and camaraderie. Many savour a meal at Trac's Food Emporiumi (formerly the Ice House Restaurant) and the parking lot is filled with their machines. That has prompted complaints from some local business opera- tors. The merchants, who wished to remain anonyrnous, have con- cemns over thse noise from the exhausts of thse motorcycles and the parkin' diffictilties thex inctir Iîdîga parkîig spot in thse primarily commnercial area on the weekend during the summer months can prove to be a difficult task. 'When t pull in to, park hefore 1 start work, 1 cannot fmnd a place because there are so many motor- cycles and cyclists," said one shopkeeper. "These miotorcyclists arc extremely nice people and have always heen polite when they corne in but there are so many of them at one tiine, it makes park- ing very hard." The motorcyclists are mcm- bers of a pleasure riding group and shouldn't be confused with outlaw bikers like the Hell's Angels. " The hikers are a e'irodt oup Gileidîiinig, ox ner ni li rars. -They are my hcst customers and do not cause any trouble. The noise from their bikes is inevitable, they are motorcy- dles." But nearby store owncrs won- der if there's another place that could be used for parking to aile- viate some of the congestion ini the area. Halton Regional Police say the motorcycles are parked on pri- vate property and thse property owners aren't complaining, therefore the issue doesn't war- rant police involvement. "The motorcyclista are wel- corne in Canipheilville," said one shopkeeper. 'We just wish there was a solution for tise parking." for bot/i young and oid Campbellville is preparing bo celebrate its 90h biday this weekend with a bost of activities for youusgand old.
