'Me community services committee unanimously passed a staff recommenda- tion Monday night that the current 50 km/h speed limit be dropped to 4.0 km/h. "Due 10 the number of young children crossing the roadways in front of sehools, it is important for drivers 10 realize that extreme caution must be exercised while driving within school zones," a staff report stated. "Reducing the speed limit t0 40 kmn/h should increase the overali level of safety along the school frontages for the children attending the schools." The recommnendation must still be rati- fied by town council, which is scheduled to mccl May 24. The school frontages poised to see the speed limit lowered are: Our Lady of Victory on Commercial Street, E.W. Foster on Coxe Boulevard, WlI. Dick on Highside Drive, Sam Sherratt on Laurier Avenue, J.M. Denyes on Thomas Street, Robert Baldwin on Wilson Drive, St. Peter's on Woodward Avenuç, Chris Hadfield on Woodward Avenue and Guardian Angels on Bennett Boulevard (which is scheduled 10 open tbis September).
