Fresh Daffodils, the first springtime flower, have been sold at loca- tions throughout Milton to raise funds to support research and support services for those living with cancer. The bright yellow flower is a symbol of hope and cheer and embodies the spirit of the Canadian Cancer Society. Volunteers will be canvassing the residential neighbourhoods in Milton for the entire month of April. Door to door canvassing is stili the biggest source of revenue for the Canadian Cancer Society and Milton residents have a history of generosity - they are some of the top donors per capita in Ontario. Support services for people living with cancer are an important part of the Canadian Cancer Society's mission. Driving patients to and from visits to the hospital and providing a toll-free telephone service for patients and their caregivers are just two of the numer- ous ways the Canadian Cancer Society reaches out to the commu- nity. The Canadian Cancer Society is the largest funder of cancer research in Canada. For every dollar donated, 49 cents goes to research and 33 cents goes to community services. Only 6 cents goes toward administration costs. Volunteers are always welcome and canvassing for the Canadian Cancer Society doesn't always require a significant time commit- ment. People can make an important contribution by volunteering only a few hours of their time.
