It's part of the Town of Milton's on-going plan to beautify the core area and make it people-friendly. During a two-hour open house last week ai Hughi Foster Hall, Town staff unveiled its proposaI to reconst-uct Main Street between Commercial and Ontario streets. The current four-lane configuration - spanning Fulton Street/Milîside Drive, Court, Prince and Bruce streets, and cross- ing Sixteen Mile Creek - would be reduced to two lanes; one for eastbound traffic and tIhe other for westbound traffic. --Cocaine is seized Two men were chargeel this week after an undercover narcotics officer was sold crack cocaine in an arranged purchase at a local plaza. An undercover officer purcbased $220 worth of cocaine Wednesday just after 6 p.m. at thse corner of Steeles Avenue and Ontario Street. The seller was followed as hie drove away from thse scene, and police muade an arrest on Mary Street. A search revealed six individually wrappcd packages of crack cocaine hidden within thse seller's seven layers of clothing. The cocame had a street value of $800. A 41 -year-old Mississauga man was charged with one count of trafficking and two counts of possession of a controlîrd substance. Tbhere would also be a continuous turning lane for motorists, whicb staff said should make traffic flow benter and less mnterrupt- ed. Sidewalks will be widened fromn 1.5 metres to 2.3 metres, with some interlock- ing brick laid down, and decorative street lightmng will replace the traditional con- crete ligbt standards. Halton Region will pay for and replace sewer and water pipes. At least one lane will be open to traffic during construction. T'he road projcct is expected to go before town counicil for approval near the end of April. If approved. construction would start in mid-May and conclude by mid-October. Town counicil adopted a plan about four years ago to upgrade thse streetscape along a part of Main Street to re-define the core area. The downtown bas long been touted by thse Town as a fundamental element to a prosperous Miton economy.
