ýTPolice presence in Nassagaweya By ROBIN DOWNTON-POIRIER Special to The Champion HatnRegional Police are crediting a recent decline in crime in Nassagaweya to an increased police presence in the area. "Since the new station (Emergency Response Centre) opcned last June, it keeps our presence in the communiry known," said Constahie Pat Martin, one of four officers assigned to the Nassagaweya comniunity. "Having us out there and the visihility of the (police) cruiser is a great deterrent. We are flot sure of the exact figures, but crime has decreasid a significant amount." A i 3-year member of the Halton Regional Police Service, Const. Martin has hein assigned to Nassagaweya for the paat 18 months. His partnir, Const. Its assistance with programns such as Rural Watch and aiding at accident sites is greatly appri- ciated hy the officers. "The genîral friendîmneas of the people in thi community is great," said Const. Martin. "There is a vîry strong ainsi of comn- munity here and it makîs our job that much easier.
