To be mindful of the unique blend of urban and rural, old and new of Milton, protecting our future in the best of town and coun- try. To protect, promote and recognize the many heritage properties, both built and natural, in our com- munity - preserving our past. What are the local issues? " Safe waftr " Rural developruent *Safe and clean roadways How will you addresa them? I will support promote and work toward the implementation of the Watershed Based Source Protection Plan tluough Conservation Halton and Milton council. I will review development applications closely to ensure they are flot endangering the rual envi- roient. I will promote, support and work toward an anticipated Milton anti-littermng campaign. To support a parallel program to reduce speed levels on our rural roada with the goal being slower speeds and lest lister - a clean and safe solution to protecting our future. Her for- mal education includes a Bachelor of Arts with majors in Economics and Political Science and a minor in English. A Nassagaweya residentfor 21 years, Ms Lunau lias three daugliters. Why are you running? 1 thoroughly enjoy being involved in my com- munity. I sec my role ini four parts. 1.) Using my knowledge and experience to facilitate, solutions to residents' concemrs - small concernis and large issues. 2.) Co-operating with volunteers who are willing to share their knowlcdgc and energy to improve our commumty. 3) Working for the larger communities of Milton and Halton, especiaily in cconomic developinent, hospital services, recreation and leisure opportunities for youth and adulta. 4) Planning for change while keepng flhc beat of what we bave. What are the local issues? Water is a key issue since rural property values and good health are sensitive to good wells. Potential dcvelopment and commercial water- taking within and near our borders must be close- ly monitored and subject to independent studies prior to any approvals. T'Me Town, through cou>- cil, must actively sup- port watershed plan- ning and aquifer management with the Region and flic Another issue is land use - protecting our rural base with a balance of farming, horse industry and residential. Taxes and quslity of life are other kcy concems. How will you address tem? We are blessed to live in largely benevolent circumstances. However, s vigilant community is essential and our grcatest resource. Residents must recognize their responsibilities and oppor- tunities to shape our community. Traditionally, we have been involved both as volunteers and political activists. Ail proposals (ncluding flic City of Guelph) must have public hearings to protect our interests. Residents, have shown great interest in these issues and together we ca> have an impact. Taxes are necessary, but every expen- diture must be justified and have good value. Decisions should be open to scruti>y. Our 'good life' comes with a price, but it must be resson- able. Rick Matchett, 52, is self-employed in tax recovery. personnel and corporate tax returns. He and his wife, Cherie, have three children and are long-rime residents of Nassagaweya. He's currently involved in the Milton and District Kinsmen Club, Milton Community Servi ces Advisory Committee and Nassagaweya Community Consultation Committee. Why are you running? I feel that the Nassagaweya/Campbeiville areas need s strong voice on council. Campbellville and Nassagaweya are great places to live and ralse a family. 1 want to keep it tlsat way. As urban Milton grows we iniIe rural ares are concemed about the effect of the population explosion on our ares. Ward 3 needs a strong voice on cound. If council representa- tion gmows in the urban area we in Ward 3 need to have strong leadership so our voice will be heard. I want to be that strong voice. What are te local issues? Rural garbage is a key issue - wbat is the cost, do we havesa choice, is roadside pickup the best way? The Woodbine Entertsinment Group's propos- al for s new hotel/golf facility and its effect on the local water sheds, trsfflc con- trol, and disposal of M sewage waate. Increase in local traffic from outlyusg communities that use our roads as expressways to the 40 1. We have ta control thse safety of our roads and pro- tect our families from the aggressive drivng on our roads. Recreational and park facilities for our chil- dren - whst do our children do for entertain- ment, bow can we provide for their activity requirements? We need to provide flic opportu- nity for growth for our youth. How will you address them? I will get involved. I will be accessible. I wiil be a strong voice. 1 wiil meet with the local residents to hear what they want and what they have to ssy about their community. I wiil be active on council and the sub-com- mnittees that I join. I will listen to the concerns of the residents and actively work on their behalf to make this the best place to live and raise a family.
