Volunteers Provide New Service at MDH If you have visited Milton District Hospital recently, you may have noticed that the MDH Auxiliary is now providing an Information Desk at the main entrance, assisting with locating patients and directing visitors to various areas of the Hospital, MDH recentiy introduced an automated attendant at its main phone number - 905-878-2383, This technoiogy allows callers to access ail Hospital extensions directly and has reduced the number of calis that require operator assistance by 70%. With the reduced volume, HHS was able ta consolidlate its two switchboards into a single operation this past May. Information indicating whether an incoming cali is to the Milton or Oakvilie site is displayed for the operators so that cails can be answered and directed appropriatey. This transition had its normal share of initial difficultiesthroughout the summer, but the consoiidated operation is now running smoothiy. Historically, MDH Switchboard staff, in addition to answering phone calis, had also performed a reception function at the main entrance. When HHS consolidated the switchboards, patients and visitors arriving at the main entrance had no one to assist themi. After visiing some local area hospitais to review how other volunteers are providing information desk services, the MDH Auxiliary offered to introduce a similar service at MDH.
