Photo by GRAHAM FAINE Ministry to put $200G toward biotech strategy to develop outlining corridor The Ministry of Enterprise, Opportunity and Innovation has announced that it has approved fundmng in the amount of up to $200,000 through the Biotechnology Cluster Innovation Program to develop the Regional BioSciences Innovation Plan for Hamilton and the Regions of Halton and Niagara. The proposai for funding was submitted by the Golden Horseshoe Bio-ltmovation Consortium, a partnership of the business and science communities in the City of Hamilton and the regions of Halton and Niagara, McMaster University and its affiliated hospitals and research institutes, Brock University, Mohawk College, Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, and Niagara College. The funding, matched by the consor- tium, will enable the development of a regional biosciences strategy and innova- tion plan for Hamilton, Halton and Niagara regions. "Supporting the growth of biotechnolo- gy in Halton is important to our continued economic prosperity and diversity," said Joyce Savoline, chair of Halton regional council. "By participating in this initiative, wc hope the benefits of partncring with educa- tional institutions, businesses and neigh- bouring municipalities will contribute to the development of a biotechnology strate- gy in Ontario," said John Ayling, Halton's director of business development.
