Burloak Water Purification Plant Class Environmental Assessment Study In October of 2002 the Regional Municipality of Halton completed a Water and Wastewater Master Plan review, which identified the required water and wastewater infrastructure projects to service future growth in Halton Region. One of the major projects identified in the Master Plan review was the construction of a new water treatment plant. The new facility will also require a water intake pipe, raw water transmission main and a low lift pumping station. The maps below illustrate the approximate study area for the proposed new water treatment plant and required infrastructure. This notice signals the commencement of the Class Environmental Assessment Schedule C study. This project must meet the requirements of Phases 1 through 4 of the Municipal Class EA Process, before proceeding to design and construction. The Master Plan review satisfied Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Municipal Class EA Process for this project by providing a review of the need for the project, an assessment of alternative solutions for meeting water servicing needs, and a description of the preferred water servicing solution. REBECCA ST OMTARIO This study is being undertaken to meet the additional Phase 3 and 4 requirements of the Class EA Process. These requirements include identifying and assessing alternatives for the location of new facilities, treatment processes and conceptual design (i.e. layouts), developing the preferred treatment/conceptual design for the new facilities and completing an Environmental Study Report. A key component of the study involves the presentation of the evaluation process to interested stakeholders (public and regulatory agencies) at Public Information Centres (PICs). Details regarding the forthcoming PICs will be advertised as the study progresses to provide interested stakeholders with an opportunity to meet the Project Team, review the study scope, and to discuss the issues related to the project including alternative solutions, environmental consideration and the preliminary list of evaluation criteria.
