Students to put their skills to test tomorrow Get ready, get set, go - Halton students, that is. For the past few months, students la pub- lic and Catholic elementary and bigh schools across the region have been prepar- ing for the Halton Skills Competition. The l4th annual competition wilI be held tomorrow at E.C. Drury High School, 215 Ontario St. S. More than 600 students will participate. The competition is designed to promote aklled trades and encourage students to enter skilled trades and apprenticeshups. It allows students to sbowcase their talents and challenge themselves. Competitors will be given challenges la their particular skills and a fixed amount of time in which to complete the tasks. Judging wiIl be baaed on completion time, workmanship, correct safety procedures and mndustry standards. "This competinion provides a unique mechanism for leamning and for highlight- mng the skills of Halton's students," sald Dusty Papke, who's co-chairing the event with Halton Regional Chair Joyce Savoline. Successful competitora will represent Halton at the Ontario Skillla competition and maybe even go on to the national and international levela.
