-/TCdious police search res,ýuits in two arrcsts Police tracked down two break- in suspects following a long, ftigid search through fields and bush early Wednesday moming. The ordeal began after police were called to an alarm at Cristello's Foodland on Crawford Crescent in Campbellville at 2:20 ar. One of the responding officera, Const. Doug Williamson, was patrollmng through the area when bie observed a suspicious van. The van sped southbound on Guelph Line at a high rate of apeed and hie obtained a licence plate number. Police soon deter- rnined the van had been stolen from Waterloo. After a further search, police found the van abandoned at Derry Road and Guelph Line. Inside were cartons of cigarettes that had been stolen from Cristello's Foodland. Canine officers frorn Halton and Hamilton were called in and a foot search for the suspects began. A track led police to the area of Kilbride Street near McNiven Road in north Burlington, where it waa dctermined another van had been stolen. Police then found the van a short dis- tance away and two suspects fled ini differ- ent directions. The police dog and handler continued and at 4:20 arn., one suapect was located ini dense bush north of Kilbride Street. 11: was awkward terrain, with fields, snuw-covered creeks and ice," said Const. The search, which alto involved tactical officers, continued through fields and bush and just after 7 arn., a second suspect waa arrested at Walkers Line and Denry Road. lIn total, about 15 officers, including those frorn Oakville and Burlington, were involved in the search. It waa the second break-in at Cristello's in two weeks. Charged were a 39-year-old man and a 30-year-old wornan. both of no fixed address. Both were charged with one count each of possession of stolen property; pos- session of burglary tools; break, enter and theft; and breach of recognizance. The woman was also charged with breach of probation and obstructing police.
