But a little digging reVeals a defmnite team effort from the more than 200 staff mnembers. And antihe hehu of that eamn, maldng nure there are as few glitches as possible, is Doug Leemiug, director of Glen Eden Ski and Snowboard School. After 24 years of watching thse school become what it is oday, Mtr Leemiug wiil leave at thse end of this season, mov- jing on to another business witbiu thse ski issdustry. "It's a mixed bag," hie said, referring to bis feelings about leaviug. Conservation Halton anmounced about a year ago tisat it was gomng to take over the Glen Eden Ski snd Snowboard School, no longer conces- sioning it out to Leeming Recreations Ltd. Mr. Leeming said Conservation Halton offered him a job, but hie declined, prefemrng to remain mndepend- eut. Tise Glen Eden Ski sud Suowboard School is a seven-day-a-week opera- tion, offeriug lessons to students on school trips, as well as private lessons and group lestons for aduits sud cisil- dren. Mr. Leemiug said is days are often 14 bours long, filled witis training staff and teachiug sud supervising lessons. But he's non complaining. Simply observiug skiers - bosis children sud adults - enjoymng tbemnselves at the school gives Mr. Leemiug great pleas- ure, hie said. He cites tbe quality of tise staff sud the number of lessons - more tissu 60,000 each sea- son -as a few of tise reasons tise scbool is known across Canada. "We started witb six full-time employeecansd 25 part-time employees, sud developed it into wbat it is today," he said. Wheu the scisool first opened, only skiiug was offered. Six years ago, snow- boardiug was added. Mr Leemniug begsu skiiug iu college. He said he enjoyed workiug witis people iu tbe ski iuduatry, so ise begsu to cou- sider a career witlsin that. He reached level four, the bighest level, witistise Csuadisu Ski Institution Alliance (CSIA), sud becamne bigbly mnvolved with tise group. After bemng CSIA vice-presidens, he then became president. ln ail, be was on thse national board for 12 years. Now tisas bis tinse as Glen Eden is nearly fiised, Mr. Leemiug hans just one thissg left to say: "I'd like to tisauk ail (the students) for thier commitment to tise program.
