Now Janie Haines will sit amnong those saine trustees. The Brant His communi- ty resident has been appointed mnterim trustee for Ward 3in Burlington. She took ber oatb of office just pnior ta, Wednesday night's school I board comist- tee meeting. Janie Hames Ms Haines was selected fram among a large pool of 40 candidates looking ta fill tbe seat. Previaus Ward 3 trustee Lynne Blanchard vacated it following bier absence astbree straigbs regular board meetings lait last year. Ms Haines, 39, will serve her ward until tbe currens termi of office for ail trustees ends November 30, 2003. She's one of five public achool trustees for Burlington. Oakville bas four represen- tatives wbile Milton and Halton His bave one eacb. Ms Haines works fuil-time as a sales administrator for Maybew & Associates of Burlington. Sbe's a man-ied motber of tbree elemen- tary-aged cbildren attendmng Brant HuIs and Bruce T. Lindley elementary scbools. The family recentiy moved into tbe Brant His community. Her cbildren previously attended Champlain PS., wlsicb closed in lune 2002. Ms Haines said sbe's bonoured ta be cbosen as a trustee fromn sucb a large group of candidates. Is was fabulous ta see tbe overwbelnsing interest from tbe comanunities. 1 believe this is reflective of tbe dedication and bard work of tbe cun'ent board of trustees,- sbe said. "The public sbould be very proud of tbe accomplisbments of tbe currens board, most specifically in tbe areas of policy govemance and pupil accommodation." Ms Hames' public service background includes four years as a Cbamplain scbool council member - two as tbe cbair - and attending and speaking as many board meetings. I understand tbe cballenges tbat this board faces, primarily in termns of tihe provincial funding formula and tbe spin-aiff this creates in areas sucb as pupil accom- modation and classroom funding," sbe said. "Having gone tbrougb tbe scbool ciosure process, 1 bave an in-deptb understanding of tbe Capital Strasegic Plan. 1 am sensitive ta thse issues tbat communities feel towards tbe closures and building of new scbools. I wbolly support tbe direction of thse Capital Strasegic Plan and will endeavour ta listen ta tbe communities and strive for solutions ohat suit alai t-laîton.!" O)TOYO
