RI DE program nets two drunk driving suspects in north Halton Two people were charged with impaired driving among 8,543 drivers stopped in north Halton during the 2002 Holiday RIDE Program. Seventeen people alto received 12-hour driver's licence suspen- sions in Milton and Halton His, according to Halton Regional Police. A total of 58 drivers were given roadside screening tests for impaired driving. Halton police also laid 38 Highway Traffic Act charges. Overall in Halton, 34,344 vehi- dles were stopped, 686 warnings or cautions were given out and more than 200 various charges were laid during the stepped-up program, which ran froni November 29 to December 3 1. "'iMe total number of vehicles stopped this year has increased from last," said Sgt. Trevor Hay. He said 32,402 vehicles were stopped in the 2001 prograni. "We also increased tce number of RIDE days by 25 per cent this year," he sald. "The combination of the two tnevitably means more roadside testmng and charges.
